California applicant privacy notice

How FairMarketValue collects, uses, and keeps personal information from job applicants who live in California.

Scope

This notice applies to personal information FairMarketValue (FMV) collects from California residents who apply for a job with FMV. We provide it at or before the time we collect that information, as the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, requires. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

Read the Privacy Policy

Information we collect

  • Identifiers and contact details. Name, email address, phone number, and city and state.
  • Professional and employment information. Resume or LinkedIn profile, work history, credentials and licenses, and the examples of engagement work you choose to share.
  • Education information. Degrees, schools, and professional designations.
  • Information you send us. The contents of your emails, including any note about why the role interests you.
  • References and background checks. Collected only after a conditional offer, with your authorization, where the law permits.

How we use it

  • To review your application and assess your qualifications
  • To communicate with you about the role and the hiring process
  • To verify information and, after a conditional offer, complete reference and background checks
  • To meet legal and recordkeeping obligations and to establish or defend legal claims
  • To consider you for other open roles, unless you ask us not to

Selling and sharing

We do not sell applicant personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose it only to service providers that support our hiring process, such as email and document storage providers, and where the law requires. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.

How long we keep it

We keep applicant records for at least four years after we receive them, as California Government Code section 12946 requires, and longer if a legal claim is pending. We then delete them.

Your rights

  • Know what personal information we have collected about you
  • Ask us to delete it, subject to legal retention requirements
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information
  • Exercise these rights without retaliation
